Cabrini Edges Ravens in CSAC Quarterfinal

Radnor, Pa. – The #6-seeded Rosemont Ravens men's soccer team gave the host Cabrini Cavaliers, seeded #3 in the CSAC tournament, all they could handle tonight, with Cabrini escaping the game with a 2-0 win. The win improved Cabrini's overall record to 13-6 and they will play at Marywood in the CSAC Semifinal game. For the Ravens, their record dropped to 5-14 overall to end the season.

The Ravens saved arguably their finest effort over the last several weeks for the post-season. After losing by a definitive margin to Cabrini in their regular-season match-up just ten days ago, the Ravens bounced back and kept tonight's important game close until the final minute of play.

The teams battled closely until Rosemont's keeper, Max McDonald, was pulled due to injury in the 17th minute of the game. Rosemont's new keeper, Sean Iannelli, who had played less than 50 minutes this season, had little time to prepare, and in the 24th minute Cabrini's Bobby Kane scored off of a cross from A.J. Bishop to make the score 1-0. There was not much that Iannelli could have done to keep the Cavaliers off of the scoreboard.

McDonald would return to goal in the 27th minute and the score would remain unchanged as the buzzer sounded going into halftime.

McDonald could not answer the call to start the 2nd half, so Iannelli played between the pipes for the rest of the game for the Ravens. The Ravens had some excellent scoring chances to try to even the score, especially after a couple of earned corner kicks, but Rosemont couldn't send it home, as they remained behind 1-0.

Iannelli played a brilliant 2nd half, stopping all six Cavalier shots on goal in the half until Rosemont was called for a foul in the box with less than a minute to play. Cabrini's A.J. Bishop nailed the PK to account for the final 2-0 score.

Although the Ravens were outshot 22-5, the home side was frustrated by the Ravens' play on the night. In the short run, the loss may leave a sour taste in the Rosemont players mouths, but upon looking back at their accomplishments this season, and their effort in their final game of this season, things will taste sweeter as they look forward to their 2015 campaign.
