ROSEMONT – The Rosemont men's soccer team ended their season on a high note, rebounding from a 1-0 first-half deficit, with Cavit Ula and Brett Krajewski scoring goals in the 2nd half to defeat the visiting Neumann Knights by a 2-1 score this afternoon at the Ravens Athletic Complex. The Ravens ended the season with a 2-15-1 record overall (2-7 CSAC), but Rosemont saved their best play for the end of the season, winning two of their last three contests. With the loss, Neumann fell to 5-9-2 overall (4-4-1 CSAC) and will be the #5 seed in the CSAC playoffs.
The Rosemont win snapped Neumann's three game winning streak against the Ravens, and it was the fourth consecutive game between the two teams that was decided by one goal.
It was a game of two halves. Time of possession heavily favored Neumann in the first half and Rosemont in the second.
In that first half, Neumann struck first on a header by Christian Cortese from a cross by teammate Andrew Kelly to put the Knights up 1-0. The score would hold going into the second half.
The Ravens were gathering more momentum in the second half, and it finally paid off in the 64th minute when the Ravens were awarded a free kick, taken by Cavit Ula. Ula's kick hit the side of the left post and bounced into goal to knot the game at 1-1.
As time was waning in the half, the Ravens were awarded a corner kick in the 82nd minute. James Finney took the kick and Brett Krajewski headed the kick into goal to give the Ravens what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
Sean Ianelli was in goal for the Ravens and he earned the win, saving seven shots on goal.
Before today's game the team paid tribute to their graduating seniors for the Class of 2016. Vito DiSanti, Purnell Summers, Jim Finney, and Brett Krajewski were recognized before the introductions to today's game.
