Baltimore, MD – Maggie Miller had another strong outing in the circle today, and the Ravens' offense gave her plenty of support in the nightcap of today's CSAC doubleheader, as the Ravens bounced back from an 8-0 defeat in the first game to snag a 10-1 win in the second game.
Including today's results, the Ravens' record now sits at 3-21 (3-13 CSAC). The Gators' record is now 5-15 (2-12 CSAC).
Game 1 – Notre Dame (MD) 8, Rosemont 0 (5 inn.)
Notre Dame pitcher Tawny Cavora shut down the Ravens' offense in the first game of today's doubleheader, limiting Rosemont to two hits and three walks as the Gators won the opener, 8-0.
NDMU started off with two runs in the first and added another in the third to make the score 3-0. A Rosemont error and some extra-base hits off the Gators' bats set the stage in the bottom of the fifth inning, where the Gators batted around and added five runs on four hits to put the game away.
Game 2 – Rosemont 10, Notre Dame (MD) 1
Maggie Miller kept the Notre Dame hitters off balance, allowing only one run on three hits to claim the victory for the Ravens. At the plate, the Ravens combined for a season-high 15 hits to provide more than enough support for Miller.
Each team put a run on the board in the first, as the Ravens' 3B Gianna Pedone singled home Lora Zubrzycki to put the Ravens ahead 1-0. The Gators came right back in their half of the inning to tie the game, 1-1.
From that point, Miller was lights-out.
Rosemont scored runs in each of the next three straight innings while Miller kept the Gators off the scoreboard. The Ravens added a couple in the second when Jessica Versage singled home Taylor Mohr and Kaitlin Fracchiolla singled home Maggie Miller to give the Ravens a 3-1 lead.
Rosemont made it 4-1 in the third when Maggie Miller scored Dani Lelie on a fielder's choice.
The Ravens tacked on another in the fourth frame when Pedone doubled home Zubrzycki to give the Ravens a 5-1 advantage.
Rosemont bought themselves insurance in the 6th inning by scoring three more runs, to take an 8-1 lead. In the inning, Pedone struck another double to score Alyssa Foronda. Nikki Mauer grabbed two RBI when she singled home Pedone and Zubrzycki.
The Ravens continued their onslaught in the seventh inning when Pedone singled home Foronda and Fracchiolla for two RBI.
Miller kept the Gators off-balance, pitching all seven innings and giving up only one run on three hits. She had a season-high seven strikeouts in the win.
Gianna Pedone was the star at the plate for the Ravens, going 4-for-5 with 5 RBI. Leadoff batter and shortstop Alyssa Foronda also proved to be a nuisance to NDMU, reaching base with three hits in five at bats. Taylor Mohr went 2-for-4 and had three hits for the day. Maggie Miller had a base knock in each game this afternoon.
Rosemont returns home for a CSAC twin-bill against the Cairn Highlanders tomorrow at the Ravens Athletic Complex starting at 5:00pm. It will be Senior Day, and the team will honor their graduating seniors, Jessica Versage and Gianna Pedone.
