Late Goal Seals Victory for Blazers

Rosemont, Pa. – In the Ravens' final game of their 2015 season, Rosemont was hosting the Hood College Blazers for a non-conference game on a cool and windy late-April evening. The two teams tussled without much to decide between the two teams until Hood scored the winning goal in the final minute of the contest to win, 9-8. For the Ravens, the loss dropped their overall record to 4-10 for the season, while Hood, with one game remaining in their season, improved to 4-11 overall.

At the onset it looked like it might be a long night for Rosemont when Hood opened the scoring with a goal in the first 42 seconds followed by another goal just over one minute later to grab a 2-0 lead with only 1:47 elapsed in the game.

The Ravens answered quickly when Powell Davis scored off the draw control only nine seconds later to pull to within 2-1. Davis scored again to tie the score at 2-2 just 2:08 later. It was time to settle in for what would appear to be a close game the rest of the way.

The goals just kept on comin' early on in the half. Hood's Shay Brathwaite put the Blazers back up, 3-2, on a man-down goal, but Davis would nail her 3rd goal of the night to tie the score again, 3-3 with 21:38 left in the half. The defenses settled in a bit at this point and over nine minutes elapsed until Hood again took the lead, 4-3 with 12 ½ minutes left in the half.

Kerry Hars would tie the score again with a goal 54 seconds later, and Powell Davis would score her 4th of the night 43 seconds later to give the Ravens their first and only lead of the evening, 5-4 with 10:53 on the clock. The Blazers would post another score on the board with 6:41 left in the half and the teams would go scoreless the rest of the half, going into the break tied 5-5.

The defenses got tighter in the second half, but Hood opened the half with their second, third, and fourth straight goals to take an 8-5 lead with 18:18 left in the game. Trailing by three, the Ravens regrouped and got goals from Jennifer South, Powell Davis, and Kerry Hars to again tie the score, 8-8 with 6:35 left.

It was clear that the next goal would be key, and it was. It took 5:41 for the next goal to be posted, but unfortunately for the Ravens, it came off the stick of Hood's Jade Locklear to give the visitors a 9-8 lead with 54 seconds left in the contest. Hood won the key draw control following the goal and was able to run out the clock to seal the win.

Powell Davis, playing her final game for Rosemont, scored a career-high five goals and led the Ravens in scoring. Another senior, Kerry Hars, scored twice, while Jennifer South added one for Rosemont.

Hood used a balanced attack with seven players finding the net, led by Shay Braithwaite and Anne Lessard each scoring twice.
