How It Happened

On a windy and rainy Senior Day at the Ravens Athletic Complex, the men's soccer team looked to send their departing seniors off with a final home victory. The opposition this afternoon the Cairn Highlanders looked to spoil the day and keep the Ravens at bay in the playoff race.

In the first half, it did not take too long for Cairn to take an early lead. In the 7th minute Brenden Keller took a pass from teammate Joey Weaver and put it into the net making it 1-0 Highlanders. About ten minutes later Cairn once again found the net. This time Zack Nelson took the ball inside the 18-yard box and tucked it home for a 2-0 lead. The Ravens would gain some much needed momentum before half, when Josh Dawicki took a pass from Luis Castillo and beat keeper Mark Heater cutting the lead to 2-1 at halftime.

The second half saw the physical play increase dramatically as the first 19 minutes of the half saw four cards handed out between the sides. Rosemont would find the equalizer in the 72nd minute when  a foul on the Highlanders led to a free kick about 25 yards from goal. Emre Kasik who had just been brought into the match stepped up and beat Heater to the left side netting to make it 2-2. From there unfortunately things did not go the Ravens way as the Highlanders added a pair of goals in a three-minute span to grab a 4-2 lead. The rest of the way Rosemont battled to get back in it, but were unable to find any more goals.
