How It Happened

The host Centenary Cyclones were bent on scoring lots of goals tonight. The Ravens managed to keep pace, but fell short towards the end of the game after a costly yellow card.

On average there was a goal scored, remarkably, every 86 seconds on average. Though the number of goals was great, both teams were scoring and keeping the game close.

In the first half, the game opened with the teams trading goals until Rosemont took a 3-2 lead with 21:33 on the clock. Rosemont would up their advantage to 4-2 with 18:51 left in the half. The teams would remain trading goals with each other when, after the game was knotted at 7-7 with 3:12 left in the half, the Cyclones scored the next three to take a 10-7 lead. Rosemont would score with nine seconds left in the half to go into the break trailing by only two goals, 10-8.

The same would continue in the second half, but the Cyclones would open the half with three straight scores to give them their largest lead of the game at 13-8. No sitting on the ball to run out the clock in this game, though, as Rosemont would score four of the next five to get back to within a goal, trailing 14-13 with 21:38 left. And the goals just kept on coming. After a key yellow card called on the Ravens, the Cyclones would take advantage, outscoring Rosemont 8-1 over the next 14:10 to take what finally looked like a commanding lead, 22-14 with 6:20 left in the game. The Ravens never gave up, outscoring Centenary 4-2 down the stretch to account for the final 24-18 score. Whew!
