How It Happened

The long night and following morning of rain cleared, and today's games were played three hours after originally scheduled. The result was that the visiting Cabrini Cavaliers swept today's doubleheader against the Ravens at the Ravens Athletic Complex.

Game 1

The Cavaliers came out to score six runs in the first inning against Rosemont hurler Charlie Fillmore, on their way to a 9-0 defeat of the Ravens in five innings. Cabrini posted two runs in the 2nd inning and another run in the 5th. Cabrini pitcher Jenn Giordano kept the Ravens off-balance at the plate, shutting out eight and ceding only two baserunners.

Rosemont's hit in the game came from left fielder Kaitlin Fracchiolla, who singled to right-center in the 3rd inning. Brianna Macauley was the only other baserunner against Giordano and the Cavs, when she drew a bases on balls in the 4th.

Rosemont pitcher Charlie Fillmore went all five innings in the circle, striking out four and walking two.

Game 2

Cabrini took the nightcap of the doubleheader, 11-1 in five innings. The Cavaliers again put a round number on the scoreboard in the first inning, with a five-spot in the first frame against Rosemont starter Maggie Miller.

Cabrini had two big innings in the game, the first and the 3rd innings, scoring five runs in each.

The Ravens broke through with a run in their half of the 3rd inning. Charlie Fillmore hit a one-out single to left, followed by a Brianna Macauley grounder to third base that was misplayed for an error, moving Fillmore to 2nd base. Nikki Maurer hit into a fielders choice that moved Fillmore to third with two outs, and an error on the Cabrini shortstop's throw enabled Fillmore to come home with the Rosemont run. It was the first run that Rosemont has scored against the Cavaliers since an 8-2 decision on 4/26/2014.

Kaitlyn Hohman earned the win for Cabrini, looking sharp over her four innings of work, giving up one unearned run.

In the circle for the home side, Maggie Miller went three innings and was spelled by Nikki Maurer for the 4th and 5th innings.
