Ravens Fend Off Giants in Season-Ending Thriller

South Scores Nine Goals, Including 100th Career Goal

The Basics
  • Final Score: Rosemont 16, Keystone 14
  • Records: Rosemont 3-12, (2-7 CSAC) – Keystone 4-7, (3-6 CSAC)
  • Rosemont win knocked Keystone out of the CSAC playoff picture
  • Location: La Plume, Pa.

How It Happened

A main point taken from this game is that the two teams tangling today were very evenly matched, with neither team able to put the other away easily. With the Rosemont post-season hopes already snuffed out, the host Keystone Giants could still earn a spot in the CSAC playoffs with a home win, so much was at stake in this CSAC contest.

The Ravens got off to a great start by scoring the first three goals of the game. Victoria Kasper scored a pair, sandwiching a score from Jennifer South. Just 30 seconds later, the Giants would score their first of the game, and three minutes later would make the score 3-2 in favor of Rosemont. With Rosemont still ahead by a goal, Jennifer South would score with 9:03 left in the half to put the Ravens ahead 5-3. For South, it would be her 100th career goal.

That would not be the last time that South would be heard from, as her next goal, 38 seconds later, was her 50th of the season. Keystone would put the last two goals on the board to end the half with the Ravens holding a slender 6-5 lead.

The two teams would combine for 19 goals in the high-pressure second half. Keystone would score the first three goals of the 2nd half, their fifth in a row, to make a run at putting the Ravens away as they were ahead 8-6 with 26:45 left in the game. But the Ravens wouldn't go away. Trailing 9-8, Rosemont would use two goals from South and goals from Ali Osorio, Gina Ragona and Jenna Kaiser's first of the season to regain a three-goal lead, 13-9, with just under 15 minutes left.

Keystone then rebounded with three straight scores to get back to within 13-12, which was answered by two big goals from South to put Rosemont back up by three, 15-12 with 3:43 left. With the clock winding down, Keystone was able to outscore the Ravens 2-1 down the stretch, but Jennifer South's final career goal would give Rosemont the breathing space they needed to run out the clock and claim the two-goal win, and for the Ravens to end their season on a positive note.
