Crusaders Ride Past Ravens

The Basics
  • Final Score: Alvernia University Crusaders 10, Rosemont Ravens 6
  • Records: Rosemont (2-4), Alvernia (2-3)
  • Location: Rosemont, Pa. (Ravens Athletic Complex)

How It Happened
Despite the big midweek Winter storm that caused the postponement of the men's lacrosse game at Hood College on Thursday. Some plowing of the turf and some hard work by Rosemont Athletics administration allowed for today's game between the Ravens and the Alvernia University Crusaders to be moved from Alvernia's campus in Reading to the Ravens Athletic Complex. Unfortunately for Rosemont, who were able to persevere through similar adversity last weekend against the visitors from Mt. Saint Vincent (N.Y.) found no such luck this weekend as Alvernia left the RAC winners 10-6 over the Ravens.

The scoring started only 1:51 into the contest when Andrew Ritchie beat Rosemont keeper Cassius Christie to make it 1-0 Crusaders. At the 5:23 mark the Ravens lit up the scoreboard for the first time on the day when Rhakeem Brunson had a brilliant individual effort starting at midfield and fired it past Alvernia goalie Kyle Augustine knotting the score at one apiece. Rosemont took their first lead of the game as Anthony Bottoms took a feed from Brandon Krausse and buried it for his 100th point of his Ravens career, that made the score 2-1. With a little under five minutes left in the first Benjamin Manning set up Sam St. Croix leveling the match at 2-2. Ben Koszelak picked up the final goal of the quarter when Zach Bowe fed him the ball, and he stuck the rock in the back of goal making it 3-2 Rosemont after one.

In the second, the goals only went one way as Alvernia outscored the Ravens 3-0. Jarret Abernethy found the back of the net with 13:16 (3-3), 4:10 (3-4) and 1:18 (5-3) left. The teams headed to the halftime break at 5-3 Crusaders.

Coming out of the break it unfortunately was more of the same for Rosemont as Alvernia continued on their hot streak as scores from Patrick Dunn, Jarret Abernethy and Benjamin Manning made it 8-3 Crusaders at the end of three.

In the final frame the Ravens hit the twine for the first time in a little over two quarters as Ben Koszelak on the man-up put one beyond Augustine cutting the score line to 8-4 with 13:25 to go. Two more goals from Jarret Abernethy and Patrick Dunn push the edge to 10-4. The goal scoring wrapped up with a pair of Rosemont tallies from Ben Koszelak and Brandon Krausse. At the final horn it was the Crusaders 10 and Ravens 6.
