How It Happened
The Rosemont men's lacrosse honored nine seniors prior to this evening's contest with CSAC opponent Gwynedd Mercy.
Ben Koszelak sent the largest home crowd ever for a men's lacrosse game (355) home happy at 3:29 into the first overtime by a final of 11-10. With the win the Ravens improved to 5-10 overall (2-4 CSAC), while the Griffins fell to 6-6 (4-2 CSAC).
Rosemont struck first at 4:08 into the game as Koszelak put his 41
st of the season behind Griffins keeper Sean Myers making it 1-0. The visitors scored the final three of the quarter taking a 3-1 lead to the second.
Kristoffer Boyd added to Gwynedd Mercy's advantage on a feed from Dominic Moscariello with 13:37 left in the half pushing it to 4-1. The Ravens answered with goals from
Bobby Fritz and
Purnell Summers 2:01 apart closing the deficit to 4-3 with 4:12 to go. Jordan Dzierzgowski used a man-up situation to add to the lead for the Griffins, but
Anthony Bottoms cut it back to a one-goal game nine seconds after the GMU marker to pull it back to 5-4. Gwynedd Mercy capped off the scoring for the period, when with a half-minute to go Boyd picked up his 2
nd of the night to make it 6-4 at halftime.
Coming out of the break the Griffins seemed determined to break the game open as goals from Moscariello and Joseph Pandolfi upped the lead to 8-4, the largest of the game. The Ravens however would not go down quietly as Koszelak (2) and Summers accounted for the next three home goals, all unassisted, making it 8-7 Griffins after three.
GMU opened the scoring in the final regulation frame, when Kohler Setley hit the net for his second of the night pushing the lead out to 9-7 with 10:35 left. Rosemont answered the Setley marker with two unassisted tallies from Bottoms (man-up) and
Zach Bowe in a 41-second span to knot the game up at 9-9 with 6:38 to play. The Griffins retook the lead 12:06 into the fourth when Ryan Simpson used a penalty committed by Summers to stick a man-up goal past Ravens keeper
Cassius Christie making it 10-9. Summers would atone for his mistake with 1:41 to play as he powered to the front of the net and forced one behind the GMU keeper tying it at 10-10 at the end of regulation.
Rosemont made sure to make Senior Night memorable for the nine players that have given so much to the program, as Bottoms fed Koszelak at the left side of the cage he stepped up to the top of the crease and ripped one into the back of the net with 2:29 spent in the extra period to give the Main Line boys a memorable 11-10 victory. It was the Raven's first-ever win in men's lacrosse over the Griffins.
