HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - A Rosemont women's soccer season that was highlighted by a second half surge to get into the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs ended on Wednesday afternoon with a 6-0 loss at the hands of top-seed Centenary University in the CSAC Semifinals at Reeves Field.
The Ravens- who were 5-2 in their last seven games that included a 6-2 road win over Keystone in Monday's quarterfinals- finished the season at 6-12 overall and 5-5 within the CSAC.
Centenary (12-7-0) will host the winner of Cairn/Cedar Crest, which was played on Wednesday evening in Allentown.
The Ravens couldn't get much of an offensive push going against the strong Cyclones defense, who had held opponents to just 1.26 goals per game during the season and posted their 11th shutout of the season on Wednesday afternoon. A lot of that, however, was because Centenary was able to push the attack from the start.
Chloe Christopher- the CSAC's Player of the Year- scored in the 9th minute of the game on an assists from Amanda Benoit to break the scoring ice. A little over two minutes later, it was Benoit's turn as she converted a long run and scored the second goal of the game.
Raeanna Cope would make it 3-0 in the 23rd minute when she converted off a free kick. Haley Hobbs could cap off the four-goal Centenary scoring in the first half with a goal in the 41st minute.
Benoit and Christopher would add goals in the second half to push the score to the final margins.
Rosemont's
Emma Lindsay made seven saves on the afternoon and
Maciana Mazzeo recorded one shot on net. Mazzeo finished her sophomore season with 15 goals on the season and 33 on her first two years on the Main Line.
This was also the final game for four Ravens seniors-
Darby O'Rourke,
Madeline Polino (who finished her Rosemont career with 18 goals scored),
Destiny Castro and
Charli Fillmore.
