This was going to be one of those springboard wins that could lift Rosemont's men's soccer team.
It was 13 minutes away from upending a Staten Island team that had a 10-3 record coming in and a +40 goal differential on the season. It was the type of win- albeit it in non-conference play- that could give a ton of momentum for the final five games of the regular season and light a fire into a playoff push that the Ravens would be making.
But in the fog of a misty evening, what was left was disappointment for the Ravens that felt awfully familiar. The Dolphins scored three times in the final 12 minutes of the game to rally for a 3-1 victory Monday night in a non-conference game at the Ravens Athletic Complex.
It was a great overall effort by the Ravens (3-10), who just couldn't finish off the victory that appeared within their grasp when
Sal Turelli's free kick from 25 yards out played Plinko with the right post, bouncing off a Dolphins player and went into the net to give Rosemont a 1-0 lead with 28 minutes left to play.
Joe Bolella would get the equalizer for Staten Island with 12:25 left when he scored off a nice crossing corner kick from Macki Dougoune. The Dolphins would grab the lead 2:30 later when Bryant Navarro scored from 15 yards out into the left side of the net.
The final tally came when Philip Lefkowitz scored on a penalty kick after being tackled in the box on a breakout pass.
The Ravens are back on the road for the next two- at Goucher College on Wednesday to make up for a rained out game in early September. That is followed by a trip to Cairn on Saturday for a CSACÂ contest.
