Senior Day memorable even as Ravens drop DH to Immaculata

ROSEMONT, Pa - There were pictures and hugs. Family members cheering every move that they made. Their teammates immortalizing their names in chalk on the steps near the backstop that will stay forever- or at least until the next rain storm comes through Bryn Mawr.
On this Saturday, winning and losing didn't exactly seem to matter that much. Because not even a doubleheader loss to playoff-bound Immaculata by a pair of 8-0 scores  in the Colonial States Athletic Conference contest at the Ravens Athletic Complex really made a difference for a group of five Rosemont seniors.
A year that had a share of highs and lows that began with a memorable stranding at Philadelphia International Airport during the teeth of a Nor'Easter in early March ended under brilliant sunshine on the final Saturday in April. It ended with the five players who are in their final games in a Rosemont softball uniform- Lena Buccigrossi, Autumn Sharkey, Melissa Lynch, Lora Zubrzycki and Rachel McClennon- being showered with praise and affection from a big crowd on hand and lined up and down the first base line and over the right field wall.
It ended with a 10-21 record- certainly not something they would have hoped for. But it was important to note that it was the first Rosemont softball team to win double figures in games since the 2005 team went 16-14. It doubled the number of wins that the Ravens experienced in 2017. It was tangible signs of progress from a program that is looking to move up in a hurry.
On this day, the Mighty Macs were too much, however. A pair of grand slams- the first by Keani Hindle in Game 1, the other by Ashley Ray in Game 2- were the difference for Immaculata, who will move on to play next week in the CSAC tournament.
Still, that was background noise for the Ravens - who hope to be in the position that the Macs were in the near future. On this day, it was about enjoying the game for one more time together and sharing a few laughs.
The score will fade. The memory- that will last a lot longer.
