LA PLUME, Pa. - One week remains in the regular season and the Rosemont softball team is still alive for the Colonial States Athletic Conference tournament.
It has already set a new mark, however, for them to build on.
The Ravens topped last year's win total with their 11th victory of the season - marking back to back double digit win seasons for the first time in school history- with their 7-5 Game 1 win over Keystone on Thursday afternoon in La Plume. (The GIants got revenge in Game 2 with an 11-0 victory in the nightcap for the third doubleheader split of the season.)
Rosemont (11-23, 4-6) stands three games behind Centenary for the fourth and final playoff spot. Realistically, however, the Ravens just have to find a way to get to two games back of the Cyclones for that spot before hosting Centenary next Saturday afternoon in the final games of the regular season. A sweep there could put Rosemont into the tournament.
Rosemont is also within striking distance of the school record for wins of 14 set back in 2004. That is the only other time besides the last two seasons that Rosemont has won double figures in a season.Â
Kaileigh Whalen had three hits for the Ravens in Game 1, scoring three times and knocking in a run.
Emily Bingman and
Madison Hagerty had the biggest hits of the afternoon, however, with a pair of two-run singles that was part of a four-run inning that gave Rosemont the lead and made a winner out of
Christina Broccolino, who went seven innings to pick up her sixth win of the year.Â
After the Easter break, the Ravens are back in action on Wednesday when they host York College in the final non-conference doubleheader of the season.
