Game Recap: Softball | | Kevin Cooney

Ravens season ends on a walk-off win

ROSEMONT - The playoff hopes were dashed in Game 1.

The dream of what could be down the road for the Rosemont softball program still blossomed, however, in Game 2.

After dropping the opening contest of the doubleheader by a 9-2 margin to Centenary to scuttle any realistic hopes of a Colonial States Athletic Conference playoff berth, Rosemont showed the resiliency and fight that allowed them to dream about a post-season berth until the last day of the season with a stirring 7-6 Game 2 win on Colleen Hall's walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Ravens finished the season at 16-24 overall and 7-7 within the CSAC. Both are the best marks that the Ravens have posted in school history. Perhaps most impressively, Rosemont finished the season on a strong kick- going 12-8 in the final 20 games of the year and 8-4 in the last 12 games.

Rosemont was able to rally from an early 2-0 deficit to take a 4-2 lead  in Game 2 on a Madison Hagerty two-run double with one out. The lead swelled to 5-2 on a Brittney Strauss single in the third. However, Centenary would score four straight runs and the Cyclones helped take a 6-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh. With two outs and Hagerty on, Brittney Strauss singled to keep the game alive. Samantha DeFrancisco walked to set the stage for Hall, who punched a shot into right to bring both Hagerty and Strauss home with the tying and winning runs.
