Bryn Mawr, PA| Saint Mary's College of Maryland Traveled to Rosemont College to Compete in the United East Championship, hosted on the Rosemont Athletic Complex.
How it Happened:
On an overcast championship Saturday, Saint Mary's kicked off the start of the 2023 United east Championship. Rosemont kicked off the contest bringing the ball down into their offensive zone forcing an early corner in the match. A shot by Shawn-Thomas McConnell was countered by Saint Mary's taking the ball the other way scoring getting on the board early taking a 1-0 lead in the 5' minute. Rosemont would make their defensive adjustments only allowing four more shots for the rest of the half (two on goal). Both sides would have players get two yellow cards in the half but were unable to convert on the free kicks. The first half ended 1-0 for Saint Mary's
The second half Rosemont would come out with some defensive changes, Saint Mary's would capitalize on a changed line scoring their second goal at the 49' mark. Rosemont Clayton Crosse would answer with a goal of his own dribbling through multiple defenders before firing a shot in the upper section of the goal bringing the Ravens within one (2-1). Both sides would go back and forth, receiving corresponding yellow cards before Rosemont would capitalize. In the 77' minute of the match Clayton Crosse would break through for his second goal of the game assisted by Nicholas Lachaweic. Rosemont would push the game into Overtime not allowing a shot on target for the rest of the half.
Overtime one and two were grinds for both sides Saint Mary's would outshoot Rosemont though the overtime periods but were unable to convert send the game to be decided in Penalty Kicks.
In Penalty's Sean Millelli led off for the Ravens striking it top left, which was answered by Saint Mary's. Timothy Kane would follow also drilling his shot top left, Saint Mary's would again answer with a penalty of their own. Tai Torres would nail his penalty on the right side, but again Saint Mary's answered. Clayton Crosse would come up scoring both goals in the match but his penalty was saved by Saint Mary's Goalie.
