Bryn Mawr, PA| Purchase Traveled down from New York to Comepete in an out of Conference Matchup on the Grey Verus the Rosemont Ravens.
How it Happened:
Facing off with one of the most beautiful days for lacrosse, Rosemont squared off against Purchase in their first game in two weeks coming off of injuries and sickness throughout the team. Rosemont allowed the first goal, but answered with two goals of their own to take the lead 2-1. One coming from NaVarro Blakes to tie the game and another goal from
Kody Lubischer to take the 2-1 lead assisted by
Jayden Hogg. The first quarter the defenses shined as the score was 2-1 Rosemont.
The second quarter scoring opened up for both sides as the offenses started to click. Purchase would score early tying the game at 2-2, then
Jayden Hogg found the back of the net to give the Ravens a lead off of an assist from
Greg Wever. Followed by another goal from
Nathan Howe, getting a dime of an assist from the goalie Andrew "Juice" Menold. Purchase would then tie the game back up 4-4 with six minutes remaining in the quarter.
Greg Wever would find the back of the net from a great find from NaVarro Blakes giving the Ravens a 5-4 lead. Purchase would tie the game up 5-5 before NaVarro Blakes would get a dime of a pass from
Nathan Howe with 10 seconds left. He made a quick moved getting space and buried the shot to give the ravens the lead going into half 6-5.
Coming out of the half the scoring did not slow down for the Ravens as they scored four unanswered goals. Credit to assistant coach Osaze Thornton for motivating the guys during half, saying they could come out and put the game away early in the 3rd. The energy of the Ravens were through the roof as they made all the right plays to open the second half. NaVarro Blakes would open up the scoring for the Ravens on an assist from
Leo Abreu, followed by a goal from
Jayden Hogg and
Owen Kennedy each off assists from NaVarro Blakes. Five minutes into the third quarter, NaVarro would score again unassisted opening up the Ravens lead 10-5. Purchase would score a quick goal keeping themselves in the game, before Rosemont rattled off three more goals of their own to open the lead back up 13-6. With NaVarro Blakes scoring two of those and
Leo Abreu scoring the other. Towards the end of the third period Andrew Menold made a play coming out on a loose ball and received a two minute penalty for direct hit to the head. This put Rosemont in a tough position as their backup goalie was unavailable for the game. Face-off man J. Patrick O' Donnell came in between the posts for the Ravens while Juice served his penalty. Purchase would score five unanswered goals to end the 3rd as the Ravens lead disappeared 13-11.
Starting the fourth Andrew Menold was back in net and the Ravens were able to scrape through the rough patch. NaVarro would score again unassisted to open the fourth followed by
Owen Kennedy of a NaVarro assist to give the Ravens a 15-11 lead. Purchase would score bringing the game back to three goals, before
Owen Kennedy put in the dagger for his hat trick giving Rosemont a 16-12 lead with nine minutes remaining. Purchase would score one more time as both defenses shined like it was the first quarter again. The game ended in a Rosemont win with the final 16-13.
Leading the way for the Ravens was NaVarro Blakes with Seven Goals and Five Assists, Followed by
Owen Kennedy with three goals and an assist of his own.
What's Next:
Rosemont will Travel to the College of Mount Saint Vincent this Saturday as they take on the Dolphins on their home turf. The game will start at 3pm
