Bill Relyea was hired as the Head Softball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Rosemont College in Jan. 2020.
Coach Bill brings 30 years of athletics coaching experience and specifically 20 years of softball coaching to Rosemont College. He has worked as a private instructor and coach for multiple SB organizations (10u-18u) throughout the Delaware Valley, competing in ASA, USSSA, Pony, and Triple Crown tournaments. He is a fixture as a Guest Instructor/Speaker at NCAA, NFCA, Triple Crown, and USA Preps softball recruiting camps across the nation. Joe Pavlow, Athletic Director (’20), said “Bill brings great enthusiasm and vision as well as an impressive record of success on and off the diamond. His success at Widener University under Fred Dohrmann was a key factor in our decision making.”
Bill joined the coaching staff at Widener University in 2012 as a volunteer hitting and catcher’s coach. His roles and functions increased progressively, leading a change in culture and the practice of emotional intelligence and positive psychology. In his seven seasons at Widener, Bill helped Coach Dohrmann and WUSB win 163 games (.638 win %). This included five trips to the Mid-Atlantic Commonwealth (MAC) Conference Tournament where WUSB finished as MAC Conference Tournament Runner's Up three out of five years (’15, ’16, & ’19), achieving a program-best record of 31-11 in 2016. Widener won the 1st MAC Conference SB Championship in program history in 2017 which preceded their 1st NCAA Tournament appearance where WUSB also finished as the Regional Runner's Up in Cortland, NY. While at Widener, Bill coached 83 NFCA D-III Scholar-Athletes, 15 All-MAC players, and the first CoSIDA District IV Academic All-American in program history (2015 & 2016).
In 2021, Coach Bill and the Rosemont Ravens Softball Team marked historic progress by achieving the winningest Conference Record (9-7) in program history while also qualifying for CSAC playoffs as the #4 seed for the first time in RCSB program history. The SB program honored and graduated Chrissy Broccolino, Teagan Dawson, and Lauren Skinner. The Ravens offense set several team and individual program records while Pitchers Dani Sharpe (So. and 2022 Team Captain) and Nina Foy (So.) set several program team and individual Pitching records. Jr., Emily Bingman, earned All-CSAC 1st-Team Honors and was selected as Team Captain for 2022, and fellow Jr. Captain (’21 & ’22), Analisa Yoder (1B/OF), earned All-CSAC 1st-Team Honorable Mention recognition. Several players earned weekly CSAC Honorable Mention recognition while the entire roster achieved CSAC All-Academic Team Honors (3.2 GPA). 12 players earned NFCA D-III Scholar-Athlete awards for GPAs above 3.5. Rosemont Ravens SB finished 2021 with a 3.62 Team GPA.
2022 proved even more historic for Rosemont’s SB program. Coach Bill recruited 17 new players to join the roster in the fall. The Ravens achieved the first winning overall record in program history at 17-15, competing against 6 teams ranked in the Top 50 of the nation and 10 ranked in the top 250. Rosemont finished Conference play with the most potent offense in the Conference: .354 Avg. in 543 ABs, 172 runs (290 overall, #19 in the Nation) and 153 RBI, 10.6 Runs/Game, 14 HRs, and 57 stolen bases in 66 attempts (95-118 overall, #12 in the Nation). The Ravens finished with the second-best record in the CSAC (13-3) and the number two seed entering the CSAC Tournament; each program firsts. Rosemont finished the 2022 season as CSAC Tournament Runners-Up in a weather-shortened 1-game Championship.
Spring 2023 was another historic season: 21-17 overall, 15-5 CSAC, No. 2 in CSAC regular season, CSAC Tournament Runners-Up, and NCAA Metro Regional Qualifier in Belton, TX (all program firsts). Seven players earned All-CSAC honors (another program first): Captain, Analisa Yoder, Grad-Student, Captain, Emily Bingman, Grad-Student, Captain, Dani Sharpe, Sr., Lauren “Lo” Begg, Sr., Jade Gomez-Chavarria, So., Olivia “Liv” Hamme, and So., Kylee Kubitschek. Lauren Begg earned CSAC Player of the Year and So. Hailee Owsiany received Rosemont’s CSAC Sportsmanship Award for her indomitable spirit and excellence as a teammate. Rosemont finished the year with a Team GPA of 3.56. The entire roster achieved CSAC All-Academic Team Honors (3.2 GPA). 12 players earned NFCA D-III Scholar-Athlete awards for GPAs above 3.5.
Outside of Softball, Bill is a certified Christian Executive/Leadership Coach, public speaker, and adjunct professor of psychology. He obtained a diploma in Nursing in 1992 (Union County College). Following a 25-year career in nursing (Telemetry, ICU, Neuro-Anesthesia, Peri-Operative, & PACU areas), including nurse-paralegal, legal nurse consultant, and legal nurse project manager, he completed B.S. in Professional Studies with ABA certification in litigation (Widener University, 2008) and made transition away from nursing. He went on to complete master’s certification in Healthcare Informatics in 2013 and then completed M.S. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology (UOP, 2016) and attained several certifications as a Christian Executive/Leadership Coach (2017). He matriculated and completed doctoral coursework for Ph.D. in I/O Psychology with a concentration in Organizational and Leadership Development, Team-Building, and Executive Coaching (Walden University, 2018). He is a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) completing the dissertation process and will graduate Summa Cum Laude attaining memberships in the National Honor Society, the International Honor Society of Psychology (PSI CHI), the National Society of Leadership and Success (Sigma Alpha Pi), and Golden Key International Honor Society. Coach Bill is also an accomplished musician/vocalist and martial-artist, a skilled chess player, and an avid golfer.
Bill lives in Delco with his wife of 27 years, Lynne (RN, BSN, MSN), their two daughters, Sonia (Temple University, ’21) and Charlotte (Sr. at University of the Arts, vocal performance), and their rescued boxer, Shelby (a class clown at Kiwi Dogz Skool).
