ROSEMONT – The Rosemont men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker tonight to the visiting Cairn University Highlanders by a final score of 2-1 in double overtime. With the loss the Ravens dropped to 5-8 overall and are now 4-1 in the CSAC. The win lifted Cairn's record to 2-10-1 overall (1-5 CSAC).
In a very evenly-contested game the Ravens struck first when Rosemont was awarded a penalty kick in the 20th minute. Bob Vetrano made no mistake and put the home side in front 1-0. The game remained 1-0 until halftime.
In the 64th minute, a bullet off the boot of Cairn's Craig Kikendall was saved by Rosemont keeper Max McDonald, but the ensuing rebound was pounced on by Caleb Moore who lifted the ball into the upper-left side to knot the score at 1-1. Neither team would score for the remainder of regulation or in the first overtime period.
In the third minute of the second overtime period, Cairn's Caleb Moore beat his defender in a one-on-one and fired his shot into the left side from 15 yards out to seal Cairn's come-from-behind victory.
The shots from both teams were nearly equal, with the Ravens outshooting the Highlanders 14-13.
Rosemont hopes to return back to their winning ways on Saturday, 10/18, when they travel to Gwynedd Mercy for a CSAC game. The starting time for the game is 12 noon.
