ROSEMONT – The visiting Goucher College Gophers scored in the 11th minute on a penalty kick goal followed by another goal in the 17th minute to set the tone of the game as the Gophers defeated the Ravens tonight by a final score of 4-1. The loss dropped the Ravens to 5-12 overall and Goucher moved to 8-6-1 on the season.
Goucher's Nate Margolis was awarded a PK and kicked the goal into the lower left quadrant to make the score 1-0. The Gophers' George El-Khoury made it 2-0 when he scored off a corner by teammate Tate Becker. The score stayed 2-0 at the half.
The Gophers opened up a 3-0 lead in the 67th minute when Andrew Marcantonio scored a breakaway off a through ball from Drew Afromsky. The Ravens had some excellent scoring opportunities in the second half, but just missed cashing in on several chances. Rosemont's Kaushik Dhanyamraju did connect in the 73rd minute off a pass from Luke McIlvaine to make the score 3-1.
The Ravens showed no quit over the last 17 minutes, but the last remaining goal was scored by the Gophers in the 77th minute to put the game away.
The Ravens hope to turn around their current momentum swing when they complete their regular season against Centenary at the Ravens Athletic Complex on Saturday, 11/1. The game will have playoff placement implications as both the Ravens and the Cyclones have both earned playoff spots.
