Cyclones Hang On To Defeat Ravens

ROSEMONT – The visiting Centenary Cyclones scored two goals within the first 21 minutes of today's CSAC game and were able to hold on in raw conditions to defeat the Rosemont Ravens men's soccer team today by a final score of 2-1. In the final regular season game for both playoff-bound teams and Senior Day for the Rosemont team, this was a battle for seeding in the conference playoffs.

With the result the Ravens ended their season with a record of 5-13 overall (4-5 CSAC) and will be the #6 seed in the conference championship game. Centenary ended their regular season with a record of 11-6-1 (5-4 CSAC).

It took 2:19 for Centenary to score their first goal. A dribbling kick from the Cyclones' Luis Marin got through the Ravens defense and rolled over the goal line to give Centenary the 1-0 lead. In the 21st minute Justin White booted home a shot off of a rebound that hit the post to give the Cyclones an insurance goal with a 2-0 lead.

Down a couple with time running out in the half, the Ravens stayed tough and rallied with a score. With 17 seconds left in the first half Kaushik Dhanyamraju took a through ball from Javier Alvaredo and scored at the far post to get the Ravens back to within only one goal, trailing 2-1 going into the half.

The second half featured great scoring opportunities from both sides, but the defenses and goalkeeping ruled and there was no additional scoring in the half.

On a cold and rainy afternoon, Rosemont keeper Max McDonald made 10 saves to keep the Ravens in the game. Cyclones keeper Jesse Goleman had two saves to earn the win for his team.

Before the game the Ravens paid tribute to their eight graduating seniors: Max McDonald, Yohana Ghede, Ethan Herman, Bob Vetrano, Vito DiSsanti, Luke McIlvaine, Brett Krajewski, and Don Tees.
