Ravens Ride McIlvaine Hat Trick To 4-3 Win Over Marywood

ROSEMONT – Rosemont's Luke McIlvaine scored a natural hat trick to give the Ravens a 3-0 half-time lead, and rookie Cavit Ula kicked the game-winner late in the game as Rosemont held off a spirited comeback attempt from the visiting Marywood Pacers this afternoon to win the CSAC game by a 4-3 score. The win was the third straight for the Ravens as they improved to 4-6 and stayed an unbeaten 3-0 in the conference. The loss evened Marywood's records to 3-3-3 overall and 1-1 CSAC. It was the second straight 4-3 victory for the Ravens and the third straight one-goal win for the home side.

In the first half, McIlvaine scored early and often. The senior scored in the 5th minute on a breakaway thanks to a pass from Ethan Herman to give the Ravens the early 1-0 lead. McIlvaine's second goal would make it 2-0 as he hit a shot off the left post that caromed into the goal in the 28th minute. In the 33rd minute McIlvaine completed the hat trick, redirecting a through ball from Yohana Ghede from 25 yards out to give the Ravens a seemingly comfortable 3-0 lead which would be the score heading into halftime.

The Pacers would make a comeback attempt in the second half, starting with a goal by Colin Ganard from Casey Peckio to make the score 3-1 in the 50th minute. Less than six minutes later the score tightened again, as the Pacer's Daniel Hull headed home a cross from Colin Ganard to pull the visitors to within 3-2.

The Rosemont defense clamped down for the next 31 minutes and in the 87th minute, Rosemont rookie Cavit Ula kicked home a cross from McIlvaine to give the Ravens the insurance they needed, putting Rosemont ahead 4-2.

Just into the 89th minute, however, Marywood's Daniel Hull would score again, this time on a through ball that went in off the crossbar to pull Marywood to within 4-3 with 1:58 left in the game.

The Rosemont defense again held tight and squelched the Pacers' efforts to score the tying goal over the last 1:58 of the game.

Max McDonald stopped seven Pacer shots on goal to earn the win in front of the net.

The third straight conference win for Rosemont is the first time in the program's history (since 2009) that the team have won their first three conference games.

The Ravens travel to Lancaster Bible College for their next game. The non-conference match-up will be played on Wednesday, 10/8, and is scheduled for a 4:00pm kickoff.
