Colonels Defeat Stubborn Ravens

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – In a game where the Ravens trailed for much of the contest, they stayed within reach of the host Colonels of Wilkes University, but the home side outscored the Ravens by a final score of 70-63 to win the non-conference game. With the result the Ravens fell to 2-2 while Wilkes improved to 3-1.

In the first half, after falling behind by 6 points, 9-3 with 15 minutes left, the Ravens went on a 7-0 run over the next two minutes to take their first lead of the game, 10-9 on a jumper by Nadir Stukes. A layup from Dyshon Pack would extend Rosemont's lead to 12-9 with 12 minutes left, but the Colonels would put together a 9-0 run of their own to take back the lead, 18-12 with 9:12 remaining. The Ravens would nibble back, and got within a point of the lead a couple of times, but couldn't break through for the lead for the rest of the half, which ended with Wilkes ahead 29-26.

Buckets by Stukes, Scafidi and Marcus Thomas would help Rosemont to take back the lead, 32-31 with 17 minutes remaining, but a key three-pointer from the Colonel's Tyler Jackson would wrest back the advantage for Wilkes. Scafidi and Stukes would hit field goals to again tie the score with 15 minutes left, and the Ravens again took the lead on a Stukes layup with 14:29 left, 38-36.

Another trey from Wilkes, this time from Alec Wizar gave the home side the one-point advantage, but the Ravens wouldn't quit as Pack would convert a layup to give the Ravens the 40-39 edge in the see-saw battle with 12:07 left to play. With the score tied, a big hit from downtown by Shawn Harvey would give Rosemont a 43-40 lead. With the Ravens leading 45-42, the three-point bucket again hurt the Ravens, as Steve Stravinski tied the game with a three-ball, knotting the score 45-45 with 10 minutes left in the game.

From that point the Colonels would put together a 5-0 rally and would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the contest.

Dom Scafidi led the Ravens with 15 points. Stukes (8) and Dyshon Pack (7) were the other high scorers for Rosemont. Stukes nabbed six rebounds to lead Rosemont.

The Ravens return to action on Tuesday, 11/29, when they open their CSAC schedule at Neumann. The game against the Knights is scheduled for a 7:00 tip.
