Ravens Nipped At Buzzer By Mighty Macs

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Ravens, leading 62-56 with 1:36 left to play were outscored 9-2 down the stretch, just coming up short by a final score of 65-64 against the host Mighty Macs of Immaculata University. The Ravens dropped their record to 2-5 (0-2 CSAC). Immaculata's record now sits at 2-3 (2-0 CSAC).

The Ravens led for most of the game. In the first 7 ½ minutes Rosemont snagged a 21-15 lead but the Macs produced a 9-0 run to take the 24-21 lead with 9:18 left in the half. The Ravens recovered again to take a 6-point lead, 34-28 after a Dom Scafidi layup with 5 minutes left in the first. Rosemont would extend that lead to 39-29 with 2:26 left in the period and end the half with an 11-point advantage, 42-31.

A layup by Nadir Stukes with 11:47 left in the game would give the Ravens their largest lead of the game, 54-40. The home side put together an 11-0 run to edge back to within 3 points at 54-51 with 6 minutes left. The Ravens would add to their lead, going ahead 61-53 with 2:35 left. Still leading by six points with 1:36 left, Immaculata crafted a comeback. Two free throws by Mamadou Diakite and a trey from Rodney Duncan would get the Mighty Macs to within a point of the Ravens, who still led 62-61 with 24 seconds remaining.

A Ravens turnover would prove costly, as Immaculata scored another bucket off of a turnover to take a one-point lead, 63-62 with 16 seconds left. With Rosemont in possession of the ball Marcus Thomas was fouled and made two clutch free throws with 8 seconds left to put the Ravens back in front, 64-63. But in Immaculata's final possession the Raven's defense forced the home side to try a three. Immaculata's Diakite grabbed the offensive rebound with one second left on the clock and he put back the ball on a layup as the buzzer sounded with Immaculata scoring the winning points.

Thomas had a strong game, scoring 21 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field, including 4-for-7 from deep. Dom Scafidi also hit on 7-for-10 from the field and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line to account for his 18 points scored. Nadir Stukes added 12 for the Ravens.

Immaculata's Diakite led both teams with 27 points. Roy Ferrell Jr. was the other Mighty Mac in double figures, scoring 11 points.

The Ravens return home for their next game, a CSAC event against the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday, 12/6. Scheduled starting time at Alumnae Hall is 3:00pm in the second game of a CSAC basketball doubleheader.
