ROSEMONT – Early on in tonight's CSAC game the visiting Baptist Bible Defenders did not look like a team seeking their first win of the season (0-14, 0-8), but Rosemont (8-8, 6-3 CSAC) started to pull away from Baptist Bible in the late stages of the first half and continued that trend in the second half to grab the 87-60 win over the Defenders.
The Ravens were frustrated by the Defenders as the visitors clung to a 26-25 lead with just under seven minutes left in the first. A layup by Nadir Stukes followed by a layup by Dom Scafidi and two layups from Khai Roberts would ignite the Ravens in the latter stages of the half as the Ravens went into the break with a 39-30 lead.
Rosemont opened up the second half on an 8-0 run to give them a comfortable 47-30 lead, and the Defenders would not get close after that point. The Ravens would extend their lead to 29 points, 83-54 with 2:40 left in the game.
The lead did change 12 times in the early-going, but once the Ravens took control in the first half the result was sealed.
Marcus Thomas led the Ravens with 19 points with 15 of those points coming from downtown where he shot 5-for-11. Dom Scafidi added 17, shooting 7-for-9 from the field. Khai Roberts also hit for double figures, scoring 12 points on the night. Nadir Stukes dished six assists, scored nine and tied for the team's lead in rebounds with six. Dyshon Pack also grabbed six boards.
On the Baptist Bible side of the ledger the individual stats were lopsided as Abe Valentine shot 14-for-20 from the field, including 4-for-7 from beyond the arc, to score 33 points. The only other Defender in double-figures was Adam Brinkley with 12 points on 6-for-10 shooting.
The Ravens hope to continue their positive momentum when they travel to Centenary on Wednesday in a CSAC contest slated for a 7:00pm start.
