GWYNEDD VALLEY – The Rosemont Ravens (10-9, 8-4 CSAC) hung with the host Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy University (13-6, 8-4 CSAC) this afternoon, but ultimately were outscored 54-32 in the second half as the Griffins halted Rosemont's 3-game winning streak with an 85-62 final score.
The Griffins took control of the game in the early stages, stretching out to a 10-point lead (13-3) with 13:45 to go in the first. Trailing 15-5, the Ravens rallied to outscore Gwynedd Mercy 14-0 to grab a 19-15 lead with 7:45 on the clock. The Griffins took back the lead, expanding to as much as seven points in the remainder of the half, but the Ravens again hammered out some momentum to go into the locker room trailing by a lone point, 31-10.
Rosemont's first points of the second half came on a trey from Marcus Thomas that tied the game at 33-all, but it was all Gwynedd Mercy from there. The key to the game was the next 9:10 whenthe Ravens were outscored 33-7 to fall behind by 26 points, 66-40 with 10:23 left to play. Rosemont would be unable to whittle that deficit below 20 for the rest of the contest as the Griffins earned some revenge for their loss on Rosemont's home floor in overtime earlier this season.
Clayton Wolfe led the Ravens with 12 points while Thomas added 11. Jeff Padilioni led the Ravens in boards with six.
Gwynedd Mercy placed five players in double figures, led by Cedric Elleby's double-double (18 points, 16 rebounds). Other Griffins in double-digits were Julian Hyden (15), Justin Knight (13), Apronti Jones (11) and Brian Hennessey (11).
With the CSAC standings so close, every conference game is of enormous importance, and the Ravens are staring down at six more regular-season CSAC games. Next up for Rosemont is a game on Monday, 2/2, when the Ravens will travel to Hackettstown, NJ to face Centenary for an 8:00pm game.
