Ula Ties Game, But Rosemont Nipped Late by Griffins

ROSEMONT – The Rosemont men's soccer team worked hard to tie tonight's game against the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy University tonight at the Ravens Athletic Complex, but Gwynedd Mercy got the game-winning goal with just 17 seconds left in regulation to escape Rosemont with the win in tonight's exciting contest. With the result the Ravens are now 0-12-1 (0-5 CSAC), while the Griffins are 5-9-1 overall (2-1-1 CSAC).

In a crisply played first half both teams had great chances to score, with the Ravens out-shooting GMU by a 2:1 margin, 8-4, but the keepers for both teams were solid as the game remained scoreless going into halftime.

The Griffins struck the scoreboard first, when Rich Mychack fed a cross to Danny Saba who headed home a goal from directly in front of the net to put the visitors up 1-0.

Shortly after the goal the Ravens had to play a man short for the remainder of the game, but instead of caving, the team found another gear. Although Gwynedd Mercy had some good scoring opportunities, the Rosemont defense, and especially keeper Zach Bowe played strong to keep the visitors from adding insurance goals.

The patience from the Ravens paid off in the 81st minute when Cavit Ula kicked the orb into the left side of the goal from a sharp angle off of the right side to knot the game at 1-1. It was Ula's first goal of the 2015 campaign.

The two teams traded possessions and it looked like the game would go into overtime, but with the clock running down, GMU's Rich Mychack once again found a teammate, this time Matt Saba, who kicked the winning goal in the 90th minute with only 17 ticks left on the clock.

Statistically, the two teams were closely matched, with both notching 14 shots. Zach Bowe took the tough luck loss, saving five shots, including a late point blank bullet.

The Ravens will play next on Saturday when they will travel to Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ. The game against the Cyclones is slated for a 2:00pm start.
