ROSEMONT - The Rosemont College women's soccer team defeated the visiting Cedar Crest Falcons by a final score of 3-1 under brisk Autumn skies at the Ravens Athletic Complex. With the win the Ravens improved to 5-8-1 overall (4-3-1 CSAC). The Falcons' record dropped to 4-8-2 (0-7 CSAC). It was an especially sweet victory for the five Ravens who were honored as the Graduating Class of 2016 after the game.
Rosemont opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Alexa Rhoads hit a through ball to Savannah Widdicombe who would boot a shot into the lower-right corner to give the home side a 1-0 lead. Late in the half the Ravens would double their advantage when Destiny Castro would feed Madeline Polino in the 44th minute. Polino would break away from the defense for 30 yards and made no mistake hitting the ball on the run towards goal to make the score 2-0 at the break.
The Falcons exacted some revenge on Rosemont when Kelsey Snavely scored on a shot from the top of the goal area to narrow the margin to 2-1 in the 58th minute. An own goal credited to the Ravens in the 76th minute gave Rosemont the insurance they would need to fend off Cedar Crest down the stretch.
The Ravens controlled the ball for most of the game and were credited with a 22-5 shot advantage over Cedar Crest. Andrea Dossantos played all 90 minutes in goal and earned the win, ceding the one goal, while saving three shots on frame.
After the contest the team honored their graduating seniors, Andrea Dossantos, Alana Howell, Gina Ragona, Jennifer South, and Lauren Whelan.
The Ravens have four more games left on their regular-season calendar, three conference games, starting with a key CSAC match-up at Neumann University on Wednesday, 10/21. Kickoff against the Knights is scheduled for 6:00pm.
