ROSEMONT – Today the Rosemont men's soccer team played an inspired brand of soccer en route to a 4-0 shutout of the visiting Summit University during Rosemont's Oktoberfest celebration. With the win the Ravens are now 1-14 (1-6 CSAC) while the Defenders fell to 2-14, 0-7 CSAC).
From early on, it appeared that the Ravens had something to prove at the Ravens Athletic Complex this afternoon, coming out and playing a controlled offense, possessing the ball for most of the contest. The time of possession advantage finally paid off for the Ravens in the 31st minute when James Finney was awarded a free kick from just outside the box. Finney hit the ball hard and out of the reach of the Summit keeper to give the Ravens the 1-0 lead.
Just 1:17 later the Ravens would double their lead when Jelani James took the ball deep in the defensive zone and sprinted past his defender for 75 yards before scoring from the left side to put Rosemont up 2-0, which would be the score at the half.
At the 60-minute mark, James would hit again, this time on a through ball from James Finney from 10 yards out to put Rosemont ahead 3-0. With 1 ½ minutes remaining in the contest, Cavit Ula would kick home a rebound off the goal post to end the scoring with the Ravens ahead 4-0.
Keeper Zach Bowe stopped four Defender shots to earn the shutout. The Ravens out-shot the Defenders by a 20-7 count and had 11 corners compared to zero for Summit.
The Ravens will try to keep their intensity and momentum going when they face the Cairn Highlanders in a CSAC contest on Tuesday, 10/27. The game at Langhorne is scheduled for a 3:30pm start.
