ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Rosemont women's soccer team (3-6 overall) shut out the visiting Penn State-Brandywine Nittany Lions, 2-0 this afternoon under chilly, windy and rainy conditions. The loss dropped the Nittany Lions to 3-2 overall. The non-conference win was the second straight overall win for the Ravens and it was the first-ever contest between the two programs.
The Ravens took control of play for most of the game, but it took some time to break through on the scoreboard. That breakthrough came through off the boot of Alexa Rhoads who scored on a penalty kick in the 39th minute to put the Ravens up 1-0. It was the second goal of the season for Rhoads.
Rosemont would earn some insurance in the 56th minute when Payton Kanagie took a pass from Cheyenne Tumolo, dribbled down the right side of the field and kicked the ball into the net on the left side of goal for the 2-0 lead. It was the third goal of the season for Kanagie, tying her with Victoria Kasper for the team lead.
The Ravens out-shot the Nittany Lions 25-3. Andrea Dossantos earned the win, with Jenna Kaiser replacing Dossantos in the final 6 ½ minutes to combine for the shut out.
The Ravens only have a short rest before returning to conference play when they will host Summit University on Monday, 10/5 starting at 7:00pm.
