ROSEMONT – The Rosemont women's soccer team ceded an early goal to the visiting Summit University Lady Defenders, but scored two second-half goals to claim a 2-1 CSAC victory over the visitors from Clarks Summit, 2-1. The win was the team's third consecutive and their second straight conference win to improve their overall record to 4-6 (3-1 CSAC). With the result, Summit fell to 2-7 (0-4 CSAC).
Summit's Shalynne Laman took the ball from near midfield, passed by her defender and opened up a one-on-one situation from 20 yards out. Laman's shot from 20 yards out was true, and the Lady Defenders were on the scoreboard in only the third minute of the contest.
Summit continued to apply pressure on the Ravens in the half, but the Ravens' defense and Rosemont's keeper, Andrea Dossantos would allow no more shots to get through, as the Ravens remained in arrears at the half, 1-0.
Victoria Kasper was awarded a free kick about 10 yards outside of the box and she took a hard shot at goal that was followed in by Taylor Mohr, and Mohr's shot ricocheted into the goal to tie the game at 1-1 in the 59th minute.
The rest of the second half was very tense as both teams were looking for scoring opportunities. During this time, the Ravens appeared to have the advantage in time of possession and in scoring attempts. The Lady Defenders were called for a hands violation in the box and the Ravens let rookie Victoria Kasper take the penalty kick. Kasper hit the shot to the right side of the goal to put the Ravens up 2-1 in the 79th minute.
The game remained tense down the stretch as the Ravens attempted to keep Summit off of the scoreboard, but happily for Rosemont, time ran out, giving the home side the victory.
Kasper's goal was her fourth of the season, and she leads the team in scoring with four goals and three assists so far. The goal from Taylor Mohr was her first of the season.
The Ravens ended up out-shooting Summit by a 16-10 count, with most of the advantage coming in the second half, when Rosemont out-shot Summit 10-2.
Jenna Kaiser replaced Dossantos in the second half and earned the win. Dossantos made four saves of the five Summit shots on goal while Kaiser was also solid in front of the net, stopping the one Defender shot on goal in the second half. Summit keeper Elysia Hinkel absorbed the loss, ceding two goals and saving six shots on goal.
The Ravens will continue facing conference opponents this week. Next up will be Centenary on Wednesday, 10/7 (4:00pm), and Cabrini on Saturday, 10/10 (1:00pm). The two games will finish off Rosemont's six-game homestand.
