ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Rosemont College women's basketball team opened up their season on the losing end of a 74-61 score at host Eastern University this afternoon. The host Eagles streaked out to an 8-0 lead, with all points coming from Eastern's Emily Lavin, after the first 3:06 was played. The Ravens' slow start in the quarter dug them into a 16-point deficit, trailing 28-12 after the first quarter.
The Ravens regrouped and came back strongly in the second quarter, outscoring the Eagles 18-14 to sneak back to within 12 points, 42-30 at the major break. Rosemont continued to hang with Eastern in the third quarter, but still trailed the Eagles 61-40 going into the final ten minutes.
Rosemont continued to nibble away at the deficit, trailing by only 12 early on in the 4th quarter, and would outscore Eastern by a 15-13 count in the final quarter, but it wasn't enough to make up for the first-quarter deficit. The Ravens out-scored Eastern 49-46 over the last three quarters of the game.
In what was the season-opener for both squads, the Ravens are now 0-1 and Eastern is now 1-0.
