Late Charge Falls Short as Ravens Lose to William Paterson

Macauley Earns Double-Double in Game Effort

WILLIAMSPORT - The Rosemont Ravens women's basketball team (3-6) were not able to recover from a slow start, ultimately falling to the William Paterson Pioneers (6-6) by a score of 61-53 in today's Hoops for Hounds Tournament consolation game played at Lycoming College.

The Ravens shot less than 17% from the field in the first quarter which led to their being outscored by the Pioneers, 17-8 going into the first break. The Ravens were able to chip the lead down to four points in the 2nd quarter, but were outscored 17-16 in the frame to trail 34-24 at the half.

Again, the Ravens trimmed their deficit in the third period, but the Pioneers were able to match them point-for-point as the Ravens just fell short of William Paterson in the quarter, 15-14, giving the Pioneers a 49-38 lead after three.

The Ravens' tenacity helped put together a solid run to get to within four points after a Carly Hislop three-pointer pulled Rosemont to within only four points at 54-50 with 2:31 remaining, but the Ravens could get no closer as the Pioneers sank some key free throws down the stretch.

The Ravens shot 30.9% (17-for-55) from the field and 51.7% (15-for-29) from the line, missing 14 shots from the charity stripe. Neither team was stellar in controlling the ball, as they combined for 41 turnovers in the contest. Rosemont forced 22 Pioneer turnovers over the 40 minutes.

After being outscored by nine points in the first period, the Ravens outscored William Paterson over the final three quarters, 35-34, and 15-12 in the final quarter.

Brianna Macauley scored 18 to lead the Ravens this afternoon, while Jasmyn Parker chipped in with nine points. Macauley also led the team in rebounds with 11 for a double-double. Leilani Naone-Carter pulled in 10 boards and Carly Hislop had eight for the Ravens. Macauley was named to the All Tournament team.

The Pioneers had three players score in double-digits led by Jackie Rodriguez (19), Brittany Harden (17), and Alex Milne (12). Milne also had 11 boards to lead William Paterson to earn her a double-double.

The Ravens return to play in one week when they host Marywood in a CSAC game on Tuesday, 1/5 starting at 7:00pm.
