Rosemont, PA – The Rosemont Ravens (13-12, 11-7 CSAC) hoped to finish their regular season on a high note by clinching a home game in the first round of the CSAC Championship Tournament, but the visiting Centenary Cyclones (14-11, 11-7 CSAC) had other ideas as the Cyclones won tonight's game on Senior Night by a final score of 76-72. When the dust settled after all of the CSAC games were completed tonight, the Ravens ended up seeded #5 in the conference while Centenary ended up in the #3 seed.
Before the start of tonight's game the Ravens paid tribute to their two graduating seniors: Nadir Stukes and Dom Scafidi.
With the Ravens trailing by one point, 11-10 with 12:47 on the first half clock, the Cyclones went on a 10-0 run, punctuated by a three-ball by Kyle Smith to grab an 11-point lead, 21-10 with 8 ½ minutes left in the half. Trailing by 12 points with 4:14 on the clock the Ravens started a comeback, outscoring Centenary 11-3 to move to within four points at 30-26 with a minute left in the half. Two buckets from Centenary's Andy Charles would give Centenary some momentum going into the break with a 34-26 lead.
Trailing Centenary 48-37 with 14:43 left in the second half Rosemont again put together a comeback attempt to try to grab their first lead of the contest. The Ravens went on a 7-0 run to sneak back to within four points, 48-44 with 11:04 left, but the Cyclones would again repel the comeback attempt after putting together five straight points of their own. Trailing 53-44, the Ravens again tried a push to take the lead. A trey from Charles Presley followed by two free throws by Khai Roberts and a Marcus Thomas layup would sneak the Ravens back to within only two points of the lead, trailing 53-51 with 7:41 left.
From that point, each time the Ravens came within striking distance, the Cyclones seemed to find a way to either score or keep Rosemont off the scoreboard. Down by seven points, trailing 66-59, the Ravens gave it one more shot with 2:52 left. Rosemont put together a five-point run to again get to within two points, down 66-64 with 2:02 on the clock. A momentum busting three-pointer from Centenary's Myles McLeod made the separation five points again. Late three-balls from Marcus Thomas and Charles Presley got the Ravens close down the stretch, but not enough to grab the lead as the Cyclones ended up winning the game wire-to-wire.
As the #5 seed in the CSAC Tournament the Ravens will travel to #4 Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday, 2/21. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00pm.
