Arcadia Nips Ravens in Double Overtime

Glenside, PA – The Rosemont men's lacrosse team fought back from a four-goal deficit, outscoring the host Arcadia Knights 6-3 in the fourth quarter to knot the score in regulation, but a goal from Arcadia's Danny Riley with just under two minutes left in the second overtime sealed the final score with the Knights squeaking out an 11-10 double-overtime win over the Ravens. With the result the Ravens are 0-2. The win was the first of the season for Arcadia, who moved to 1-1.

The Ravens took the lead early in the game when Ralph Ibezim scored after less than three minutes elapsed to put Rosemont in front 1-0. Two Arcadia goals ended the quarter with the home side winning 2-1. The teams alternated goals in the second quarter. Mike Manning scored his first goal of 2015 on an assist from Anthony Bottoms to knot the score at 2-2. After an Arcadia goal the Ravens once again tied the score with 10:24 left in the half when Ralph Ibezim scored his third goal of the season. Arcadia again snapped back with just over a minute left in the half to take a 4-3 advantage into halftime.

Arcadia would make it three goals in a row, as they notched the first two goals in the 3rd quarter to go ahead 6-3, but there was still a lot of time left, with 10:50 on the clock. Dean Grisoff would answer back with his first goal of the season for the Ravens on an assist from Stephen Licata to edge Rosemont to within 6-4, but the Knights would score with two minutes left to end the quarter leading 7-4.

The Ravens would need to rally to get back into the game from this point. And rally they did.

An Arcadia goal in the first 30 seconds of the final quarter didn't bode well for the Ravens, who then trailed 8-4, but Rosemont would put the next four straight goals on the scoreboard within a period of 4:25 to tie the game at 8-8. The comeback was sparked by Ralph Ibezim's 4th and 5th goals of the season, followed by Stephen Licata's 1st of the year and then Ibezim's 6th of the year with a significant amount of time still left on the clock (8:40).

Try as they might, the Ravens couldn't get themselves in front. With just under six minutes left, Arcadia's Danny Riley scored to put the Knights ahead 9-8. It took another 3:18, but the Ravens held Arcadia off the board and scored on Rasool Smith's 2nd goal of the year to once again tie the score with 2:33 on the clock. Arcadia would score with 1:26 in regulation, but the Ravens would take advantage of a man-up situation just after the ensuing faceoff as Anthony Bottoms shot one true to once again knot the score at 10-10 with a minute remaining in regulation. That would be the score at the end of regulation.

In a tense first overtime the Ravens outshot the Knights 2-1, but none of the shots found the net. The shot from Arcadia's Joe Stanton hit the post and Stephen Licata's shots were both wide left. A ball in the goal was nullified because of an offsides call that was whistled just before time expired in the overtime period.

Only one shot was taken in the second overtime when Riley's goal ended the game with 1:58 left in the overtime period.

Overall, the Ravens had six different players score goals this afternoon led by Ralph Ibezim's five goals. Five other players scored one goal apiece.

For the Knights, Danny Riley tallied five goals. Four other Arcadia players scored in the game.

The Ravens put in a great effort today, but they hope to soon start converting their good play into wins. Their next try will take place when they travel to Frederick, MD to face the Hood Blazers on Monday in a non-conference game.
