BRYN MAWR, PA – After falling behind 1-0 with less than two minutes played, the Rosemont Ravens women's lacrosse team (1-0) responded with four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead and did not trail the Bryn Mawr Owls (2-2) for the remainder of the contest. Rosemont eventually ran out 10-4 winners over their rivals from across Montgomery Avenue.
The win was the first season-opening victory for the program since they defeated Cedar Crest, 16-9 on 3/14/2005, roughly ten years ago. The win for the Ravens was the first over the Owls after four straight defeats, with Rosemont's last win coming against Bryn Mawr in 2003.
Rosemont Head Coach Jenna Petrucelli enjoyed her first game at the helm of her team.
Bryn Mawr's Georgia Dominique scored her 7th goal of the year after 1:41 was played to give Bryn Mawr their only lead of the game. Rosemont freshman Nicole Goodwin would make her mark, scoring three of Rosemont's first four goals to give the Ravens their 4-1 lead. Powell Davis scored during that stretch to account for Rosemont's second goal of the day.
Leading 4-1, the Owls would score two additional goals to sneak back to within one, 4-3, with 3:23 remaining in the first half, but Ali Osorio would score in the final minute of the half to give the Ravens a two goal, 5-3 cushion going into the break.
Goodwin's fourth goal of the game and Gina Ragona's score would bolster the Ravens' lead to four goals, 7-3 with 24 minutes remaining. Bryn Mawr would score with 14 ½ minutes left in the contest, but from that point the Ravens would run out the clock scoring three goals, starting with Goodwin's fifth of the afternoon, followed by two goals from Kerry Hars.
Rookie Nicole Goodwin made an impressive debut today, leading the Ravens with five goals on seven shots, a ground ball and a caused turnover. Senior Kerry Hars tallied a couple of scores with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Scoring solos for Rosemont were Ali Osorio, Powell Davis and Gina Ragona.
Powell Davis had a tremendous day on the field with eight ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Nia Hall (1-0) earned the win with a solid day in front of goal, making 12 saves with five ground balls.
The Ravens are scheduled to play their second game of the season this coming Saturday at the Ravens Athletic Complex when they host Purchase College in a non-conference game. Game time is set for 1:00pm.
