Bryn Mawr, PA – The visiting Purchase College Panthers (2-0) got off to a fast start in today's game against the Rosemont Ravens (1-1) in non-conference play. The Panthers scored the first five goals in the first seven minutes and fended off several comeback attempts by the Ravens to take the win by a final score of 18-8.
Trailing 5-0, the Ravens scored the next two goals from Nicole Goodwin (6) and Kerry Hars (3) to get back to within three goals, 5-2. The teams would alternate goals as the score reached 8-5 in favor of Purchase with 3:32 left in the first half. The Panthers would end the half with three straight scores to take an 11-5 lead.
Purchase scored twice more within the first 1:16 of the second half to stretch their lead to eight, 13-5. Rosemont's Powell Davis would put an end to Purchase's five straight goals to make the score 13-6 on a free position shot. Trailing 14-6, Laura Bunyard stepped up big time for Rosemont, scoring her second and third goals of the day to make the score 18-4 with 16:03 remaining in the contest.
The Panthers would score the last four goals of the game to account for the final score.
Bunyard led the Ravens with a hat trick, her first three goals of the season. Kerry Hars and Nicole Goodwin each scored twice with Powell Davis finding the back of the net once. Goodwin and Davis each were credited with three ground balls, with Davis leading the Ravens with two caused turnovers.
Purchase's Zoe Hines scored six goals to lead the Panthers. Madi Smith and Kelly Turtell also had big games, scoring four times and three times respectively. Samantha Rich had five ground balls with Jasmine Rippey having two caused turnovers.
Between the pipes, Rosemont's Kiana Davis took the loss (0-1). The Panthers' Caitlin Sosa stopped half of Rosemont's 16 shots on goal to earn the win.
