NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The temperatures warmed up a bit today. The temperature was 54 degrees in North Myrtle Beach for the start of Rosemont's first game. For the start of their second game, the temperature had risen to 64 degrees.
Unfortunately for the Ravens, the team went 0-2 in today's games, falling to 0-5 so far on their South Carolina swing to open their 2015 season.
Game 1 – Wilkes 7, Rosemont 1
Rosemont put together a two-out rally to take the lead in the game. With the bases empty, Dani Lelie singled to center to start the rally. Next up was Gianna Pedone who then doubled down the left field line to score Lelie, putting the Ravens ahead 1-0.
Ravens' starter Maggie Miller shut down the Colonels in the first two innings, but Wilkes put together a four-spot in their half of the 3rd, scoring four runs on two hits in the frame. Wilkes tacked on three more runs in the 6th to take a 7-1 lead and that was the final score.
The Ravens out-hit the Colonels 6-5 in the game. Nikki Maurer came in to relieve Miller in the fourth inning and was able to strike out five batters the rest of the way. Only two of the four runs scored against Miller were earned. Each team struck out six times in the game.
Dani Lelie was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate to raise her batting average to .600 after four games. Gianna Pedone kept hitting today, as she was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk. She is also batting .600 so far in this young season.
Lelie and Pedone have had multiple-hit games in their last two consecutive games.
Game 2 – Mary Washington
The Ravens ceded a run early, and answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning after Gianna Pedone singled to right field to score Taylor Mohr from second to tie the game 1-1.
The Eagles scored two runs in the 2nd and another four runs in the 3rd to take control, 7-1. Mary Washington ended the game in top the 6th inning when they scored four more runs and the Ravens were held scoreless in the bottom of the inning.
Alyssa Foronda singled up the middle in the final inning for her first safety of the season. Pedone went 1-for-2 and knocked in Rosemont's run. After five games, she is batting .583, has a slugging percentage of .750, leads the team with seven RBI and has a three-game hitting streak. Dani Lelie is boasting a .462 batting average so far and has knocked in six runs for the Ravens.
The Ravens again face Mary Washington at North Myrtle Beach tomorrow. The game is scheduled for a 1:30pm start.
