NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Ravens (0-8) put together a strong comeback effort against the Grove City Wolverines (6-2) today, rebounding from a 6-1 deficit but coming up short by a 6-5 score. In today's second game for Rosemont, a strong (#22) Rowan University (2-0) squad defeated the Ravens, 14-0.
Game 1 – Grove City 6, Rosemont 5
The Ravens took the lead early in this game when Gianna Pedone launched a long double to center to score Alyssa Foronda to put the Ravens up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
The Wolverines bounced back, scoring runs in the next three innings to take a commanding 6-1 lead after four innings. The Ravens put three runs on the board in their half of the 5th inning to get back to within two runs of Grove City. Taylor Mohr, Dani Lelie and Gianna Pedone hit back-to-back-to-back singles to knock in Jess Versage, Alyssa Foronda and Taylor Mohr to make the score 6-4.
Ravens' pitcher Maggie Miller shut out Grove City in the 5th through 7th innings. Trailing by two, Rosemont threatened with a two-out rally in the 7th inning.
Foronda started off the frame with a walk. She was advanced to 2nd base when Taylor Mohr singled to left, putting the tying runners on base with no one out. Dani Lelie stepped up to the plate and hit an RBI single to center field to score Foronda, moving Mohr, the potential tying run, to 2nd base.
At that point, Grove City replaced their starting pitcher, Katie Watts, for some relief from Erika Aughton. With the meat of Rosemont's order due to bat, Aughton retired the last three Ravens to earn the save and secure the win for the Wolverines.
Mohr, Lelie and Pedone each picked up two hits in the game. Lelie and Pedone knocked in two runs apiece.
In the circle, Maggie Miller spelled Nikki Maurer in the fourth inning and gave up only one run over that stretch, striking out four and walking only one.
Game 2 – #22 Rowan 14, Rosemont 0 (5 inn.)
The Ravens faced a powerful Rowan Profs team this afternoon. With the Profs ahead 2-0 after one inning the game got out of hand for the Ravens when Rowan plated 11 runs in the second inning.
The Ravens had trouble figuring out the Rowan pitchers, as the Profs' Allison Nolan pitched three innings of no-hit ball for the win and Ashley Lesch threw the last two innings and did not cede a hit.
Nikki Maurer pitched impressively over the last three innings, giving up only 1 unearned run.
Now completing their Spring trip to South Carolina, the team will return North, hopefully to warming temperatures. Next up, Rosemont is scheduled to host Valley Forge University in a non-conference twin-bill on Tuesday, 3/17. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm.
