Gwynedd Mercy Takes Pair from Ravens

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – The Rosemont women's softball team was swept by the host Gwynedd Mercy Griffins this afternoon by scores of 8-1 and 5-2. With the results, Rosemont's overall record fell to 2-16 (2-8 CSAC). The Griffins moved up to 14-5 (9-2 CSAC).

Game 1 – Gwynedd Mercy 8, Rosemont 1

The Ravens gave up runs in the bottom of the first through third innings to fall behind 7-0 after the third inning was completed. Gwynedd Mercy started off in the first frame scoring four runs on two hits. The Ravens scratched back a run in the top of the 2nd inning when Taylor Mohr singled to left. With one out, Jess Versage was hit by a pitch to force Mohr to second base. Alyssa Foronda singled to left to load the bases, and Lora Zubrzycki followed up with a single to right to knock in Mohr.

The Griffins were kept off the board in the 4th and 5th innings, but tacked on another run in the bottom of the 6th to end the scoring.

Nikki Maurer started the game for Rosemont and pitched five innings, taking the loss. She was relieved by Maggie Miller in the sixth inning.

The Ravens had seven hits in the game, with two coming off the bats of Foronda and Zubrzyckii. Gianna Pedone, Mohr, and Versage each had a hit in the game.

The Griffins' Arechavala went the distance to earn the win, giving up an earned run, striking out six and not walking any Ravens.

Game 2 – Gwynedd Mercy 5, Rosemont 2

The Ravens grabbed the early lead in the nightcap when Gianna Pedone singled to center to score Lora Zubrzycki to put the Ravens in front in the first inning, 1-0.

Maggie Miller proved to be tough for the Griffins to figure out, as Gwynedd Mercy was shut out for the first three innings. Trailing 1-0, the Griffins tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The fifth inning was key in this game. In Rosemont's fifth inning, Dani Lelie struck a single to right, scoring Jess Versage to give the Ravens a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the inning, the Griffins put together a four-run rally on five hits and one Rosemont error to take the 5-2 lead.

Lelie led the Ravens at the plate with a 2-for-4 game. Gianna Pedone and Nikki Maurer also had base hits for Rosemont.

Miller had one of her best games of the season in the circle, giving up three earned runs and striking out two Griffins, but she was out-dueled by the Griffins' Whalen, who ceded two runs with five strikeouts.

The Ravens go right back to work under what is forecast to be a sunny and fairly warm day, when they host the Cedar Crest Falcons in a CSAC doubleheader tomorrow at the Ravens Athletic Complex. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm.
