Griffins Pull Away From Ravens for Win

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – The Rosemont College women's lacrosse team (3-7, 2-5 CSAC) held the lead for most of the first half in today's CSAC game at Gwynedd Mercy. The Ravens trailed by only a goal at the half, but the Griffins (6-7, 3-4 CSAC) outscored the Ravens 7-3 in the second half to claim the win, 13-8.

The two teams battled closely in the first half. Rosemont opened up with a 2-0 lead after five minutes were played, thanks to goals by Kerry Hars and Nicole Goodwin. The Griffins would answer, scoring the next two goals to tie the game at 2-2 with 20 ½ minutes left in the half. After another Goodwin goal put the Ravens ahead, Gwynedd again tied the game for the second time, 2:18 later. Goodwin would again put the Ravens back up by a goal, but the Griffins would tie the score for the third time, 4-4, with 9:49 on the clock. Kerry Hars scored with 8:36 left to give the Ravens a 5-4 lead, but the Griffins answered with 3:44 left for the fourth tie, 5-5. The Griffins would score again with 1:27 on the clock to grab a 6-5 lead going into the break.

Rosemont's Kerry Hars got the Ravens off to a good start in the second half, once again tying the game (for the fifth time), 6-6 with 26:15 left. The game's momentum pivoted to the Griffins from that point as Gwynedd scored the next three straight goals to move ahead 9-6. With just under 18 minutes left, Jennifer South would pull the Ravens back to within two, 9-7, with 17:52 left in the game, but the Griffins would score the final four goals to give the home side a solid lead from which to work. A goal from South with just under two minutes to play would end the scoring for the day.

Rosemont goalkeeper Nia Hall kept the Ravens in the game, making 15 saves on 28 GMU shots on goal, with many of the saves coming off of free position shots.

Kerry Hars and Nicole Goodwin each put three into the net, with Jennifer South adding two more for the Ravens.

The Griffins' Kelsey Yori had a strong game, scoring six goals with an assist, while her teammate Brianna Greer added four scores for Gwynedd.

Next up for Rosemont is a CSAC game at Neumann on Wednesday, 4/15, with the start time scheduled for 4:00pm.
