Hackettstown, N.J. – The Rosemont Ravens softball team (2-14, 2-6 CSAC) were shut out on Monday in both games of their doubleheader by the host Centenary Cyclones (3-13, 2-0 CSAC) in the conference-opener for Centenary.
Game 1 – Centenary 3, Rosemont 0
Nikki Maurer had another strong outing in the circle, going the distance and striking out three while not giving up any walks, but the Ravens were cold at the plate and had trouble supporting the good pitching outing.
The Cyclones opened up the first with a couple of runs on three hits and a Rosemont error to take the early 2-0 lead. The home side added another run in the bottom of the 4th to make the score 3-0. While Maurer was dealing, Centenary's pitcher K. Morgan was even more effective. She shut out the Ravens over seven innings, striking out five and walking two for the win.
Gianna Pedone went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Ravens. Alyssa Foronda and Maurer had the other hits for the Ravens.
Game 2 – Centenary 8, Rosemont 0 (6 innings)
Unfortunately for Rosemont, the nightcap started similarly to the opener of the doubleheader. Rosemont came up empty in the first, but Centenary scored four runs on three hits and one Rosemont error to plate four runs in the bottom of the first.
Rosemont pitcher Maggie Miller settled in after the first inning and held the Cyclones off the board for the next three innings, but Centenary put another crooked number up on the scoreboard in their half of the 5th, scoring three runs on a couple of hits to take a 7-0 lead. The Cylones added another run in the sixth to claim the win in six innings.
The three hits for the Ravens came off the bats of Alyssa Foronda, Lora Zubrzycki, and Liz Coyne.
Tuesday's scheduled doubleheader against the University of Valley Forge was postponed, so next up for Rosemont is a home twin-bill against Keystone on Friday, 4/10. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00pm at the Ravens Athletic Complex
