Rosemont, Pa. – The Rosemont men's lacrosse team (3-7, 2-1 CSAC) defeated the Neumann Knights (0-10, 0-3 CSAC) by a score of 13-5 under a non-stop rain on a raw evening at the Ravens Athletic Complex. The win was the first for the Rosemont program against Neumann in its fourth year of competition.
The Ravens would shut down the Neumann offense in the first quarter. After scoring the first three goals, Rosemont would add their final goal of the quarter with 33 seconds left to make the score 4-0 when Anthony Bottoms fed Justin Regan for his first of six goals on the night.
The second quarter was a low-scoring 15 minutes, with each team putting one notch on the scoreboard and Rosemont holding a 5-1 lead into the major break.
Neumann would sandwich a Justin Regan goal to climb to within 6-3, and the Knights would add a man-up goal with 3:49 left in the quarter to make the score 6-4 in favor of the Ravens. But Rosemont would steady after that point and a goal from Stephen Licata would give the Ravens a three-goal cushion, 7-4 going into the final quarter.
Rosemont would score twice within the first period, starting with a man-up goal from Regan, to put Rosemont ahead 9-4 with 14:09 left in the game. Neumann would strike to make it 9-5, but Rosemont answered with four straight scores to end the night.
Zach Bowe got many of Rosemont's offensive thrusts started, winning 12 of 14 face offs to put the Ravens in command out of the center. Many of the feeds ended up in the stick of Justin Regan, who led the Ravens with six goals. Stephen Licata scored three and Rasool Smith added two for the Ravens, while Zach Bowe scored one fantastic goal, winning a difficult faceoff and then running the ball down the field and finding the net on a beauty of a shot. Brendan Dougherty also scored for the Ravens.
Kiefer Paul played all 60 minutes between the pipes and earned the win, making eight saves on 13 Neumann shots on goal.
Ryan O'Kane led the Knights with two goals with solo scores coming from Jordan Klunk, Ron Lassiter and Ricky Viscuse.
The Ravens next play on Saturday when they travel to Immaculata on 4/11 to face the Mighty Macs in a CSAC game. Face off is scheduled for 1:00pm.
