Ragona Scores Game-Winner Over Cairn

ROSEMONT, Pa. - Rosemont senior Gina Ragona took a shot on goal from 18 yards out that worked itself past the Cairn keeper's hands and rolled over the goal line and it turned out to be the deciding goal as the Ravens (2-6, 2-1 CSAC) came away with a 3-2 victory over the visiting Cairn Highlanders (4-6, 2-2 CSAC) on a miserably rainy and breezy night at the Ravens Athletic Complex.

The scoring got started in the 33rd minute after Cairn was called for a foul for a hands violation while in the penalty box. Victoria Kasper was awarded the penalty kick, and she didn't miss, putting the Ravens ahead 1-0 for Kasper's 2nd goal of the season.

The Raven's lead would be relatively short-lived when Cairn's Alicia Geistdorfer redirected a cross from Meghan Wilson from 20 yards out to find the right corner of the net to tie the game at 1-1in the 38th minute.

After the half-time break, it was the Highlanders who grabbed the lead, when Wilson dribbled down the left side and shot a bullet into the middle from 12 yards out to put Cairn up 2-1 in the 52nd minute.

This time it was Rosemont's turn to answer quickly, when Kasper scored her 2nd goal of the game (season's third) off of a through ball from Melissa Lynch in the 53rd minute to once again tie the game at 2-2.

Rosemont's time of possession advantage finally paid off in the 69th minute when Ragona scored to put the Ravens ahead to stay.

The Ravens out-shot Cairn by a 17-7 count. Rosemont put Cairn keeper Mackenzie Paugh on alert all night, scoring their three goals with Paugh saving the other seven shots on goal. Rosemont keeper Andrea Dossantos earned the win, yielding two goals on six Cairn shots on goal.

Next up for the Ravens is a non-conference home game against Penn State - Brandywine on Saturday, 10/3. The game against the Nittany Lions is slated for a 1:00pm start.
