How It Happened

The start of the game looked like it might be a nightmare for the Ravens, as the host Cairn Highlanders piled on eight shots to none against the Ravens. Cairn's Aria Hess scored on the Highlander's third shot to take an early 1-0 lead with only 7:28 played. Trailing on the scoreboard and down 8-0 in shots, the Ravens' Madeline Polino took Rosemont's first shot of the day, and it was a winner as she parked the ball into the lower left of the goal to level the score at 1-1.

There would be no more scoring in the half, but the Raven's defense and goalkeeper Jenna Kaiser remained tough, as the Ravens were out-shot 16-4 in the first half.

Just over ten minutes into the second half, Polino struck for Rosemont's second goal off an assist by Emily Johnston to give the Ravens their first lead of the day, 2-1. In the 65th minute, Polino struck again, this time moving the ball from the 18 into the upper left corner to give the Ravens some insurance, leading 3-1. In the 76th minute, Polino would strike her record fourth goal of the contest, and fourth in a row, making it a seemingly safe 4-1 lead for Rosemont.

The Highlanders had other plans, however. The home side had two shots in the next 3:33, and both found the net. Hannah Morrison and Meghan Wilson would tighten things up again, and the Raven's three-goal lead was now down to a solo, with about 11 minutes to play.

The Ravens' defense stepped up, limiting the Highlanders to two shots the rest of the way as the clock eventually ran down and Rosemont could claim the conference win.
