Rosemont Claims First Season Win on Senior Night for Athanasiadis

How It Happened
 
In this match-up between two teams desperately trying to win their first conference match of the year, early on it seemed that the visiting Centenary Cyclones would have the edge, winning the first set, 25-20. Things started to look bleak after the second, when Centenary took the closely-contested set. The Ravens led 23-22, but the Cyclones scored the final three points to win the set 25-23, and take a 2-0 advantage in sets.

In the third set, things started to reverse. Again, the Ravens led 23-22, and the Cyclones knotted the score at 23-23 before a kill by Lena Buccigrossi put the Ravens ahead by a point, and a Centenary attack error gave the set to Rosemont, 25-23.

Trailing 2-1, the Ravens were still in trouble, needing to win set number four and to win a decisive fifth set.

The Ravens started to build on their confidence in winning the third set, but again the teams played the set closely. Tied 8-8, the Ravens got a kill from Morgan Rollins to take a 9-8 lead, and although the Cyclones were always within reach, the Ravens fended them off to force the fifth and deciding set, winning set number four, 25-21.

In another very close set, the Ravens trailed only once, 5-4, before a Centenary service error tied the set. A service ace from Buccigrossi and a kill by Maria Athanasiadis gave Rosemont a slight two-point edge, 7-5. Centenary managed to tie the set at 9-9, but the Ravens would not trail the rest of the way, winning by a score of 15-12.
