Ravens Hang Tough, Lose to Hot Arcadia Knights

Ravens Look to Turn Things Around on Wednesday at Ursinus

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Rosemont Ravens men's basketball team (3-5) were looking to bounce back from a tough overtime conference loss last week, but they came up on the short side of a 91-82 final score against the visiting Arcadia Knights (5-4) this afternoon in Alumnae Hall.

The Knights came in on a roll, winning three straight against difficult competition, but couldn't totally shake the Ravens off in today's contest, although they led for most of today's contest.

Seven minutes into the first half the Knights outscored Rosemont 13-2, including a nine-point run to grab a 13-4 lead. Trying to hang tough, the Ravens whittled the lead down to 17-11, and stayed within reach of the visitors for the remainder of the half. A momentum-building last-second jumper from Jamier Hughes ended the scoring for the period with the Ravens still within reach, trailing 40-30.

With Rosemont trailing only six points, 40-34, though, the Knights would put together a critical 13-0 run to up their lead to 53-34 with 14:42 left. Ultimately, Arcadia would take their biggest lead of the contest, 64-43 with 11:16 remaining, but the Ravens refused to quit. The home side used two treys from Nick Gemmell and a Lyle Lafferty three-point play to put together a nine-point run of their own, to get back to within 12 points, trailing 64-52 with over 10 minutes to play. Both teams played well down the stretch, but the deficit was too much for the Ravens to overcome. Rosemont came to within eight points of Arcadia with 2:08 left, but couldn't get back in front the rest of the way.

Andrew Michaels (A.J.), playing his second game of the season, made a conspicuous impact on the contest, shooting 8-for-10 in the low post, scoring 18 points, and grabbing six rebounds in only 18 minutes played. Jamier Hughes had another outstanding performance for the home side, hitting 19 points from the field with 12 boards for his fourth double-double this season. Kyle Lafferty shot 6-for-12 and 3-for-5 from long distance on his way to scoring 16 points. Zach Gober provided a spark from the outside, hitting three treys for nine points. Nick Gemmell also helped the cause with two long-distance buckets and eight points overall.

For Arcadia, Brandon Thompson led all players with 23 points, just nosing out teammate Evan Slone who scored 22. Ryan Kelley added 17 on 6-for-7 shooting (3-for-3 from outside the arc).

Overall, the Knights hit on 64.6% of their shots, while the Ravens hit on 41.1%. Arcadia hit on 56.3% from downtown compared to 24.2% for the Ravens. Finally, the Knights made 71.4% of their free throws compared to Rosemont shooting 58.3% from the charity stripe.

The Ravens will travel to Collegeville for their next game, which will be at Ursinus College on Wednesday, 12/21. The non-conference game is scheduled for a 2pm start.
