Ravens Win Dramatic Season Opener

Five-Goal Rally, Score Winning Goal With 1.8 Seconds Remaining

The Basics
  • Final Score: Rosemont 10, Hood 9
  • Records: Rosemont 1-0, Hood 0-1.
  • The Ravens scored the final five goals of the game in a span of 6:19 to steal the win over the Blazers
  • First time the program has won a season-opener, and the first time the Ravens have defeated the Blazers.
  • Location: Rosemont, Pa. – Ravens Athletic Complex

How It Happened
  • The Blazers opened up the scoring with 11:17 on the clock in the first and followed with another goal 4:35 later to start off with a 2-0 advantage. The Ravens answered on a goal by captain Stephen Licata to get to within a goal, but Hood would score an extra-man goal with just three seconds remaining in the quarter to grab a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

  • Captain Ralph Ibezim inched the Ravens back to within a goal, scoring with 10:54 remaining in the period to make the score 3-2. But Hood held Rosemont off of the scoreboard for the remainder of the second quarter while scoring two goals of their own to end the half ahead of the home side by three goals, 5-2.

  • The two teams would alternate scoring goals in the third quarter. Anthony Bottoms scored with 5:17 on the clock to make the score 6-3, and Licata would score on a feed from Bottoms to end the quarter with the Ravens trailing 7-4.

  • After an Ibezim goal from Licata got the Ravens back to within a pair, trailing 7-5, things started to look bleak in the fourth quarter when Hood would score twice, putting the Ravens in a 9-5 hole with 10:53 left in the game. From that point the Ravens took control, starting with a goal from Zach Bowe off of a Rasool Smith pass with 6:21 left. A Tyler Ferrara score from Bowe with 5:49 remaining was followed by another Rosemont goal, this time another from Ibezim with 3:01 left in the game as the Ravens could see their way to the clearing, trailing by a goal, 9-8. With 1:12 left in the contest, Zach Bowe fed Licata for another score to knot the game. A late unnecessary roughness penalty on the Blazers gave the Ravens the final 17 seconds of the game with an extra-man opportunity. They made the most of that opportunity, with Ibezim cashing in on a Licata pass with 1.8 seconds left on the clock as the Ravens completed the comeback victory by scoring the final five goals of the contest.
