Ravens Look for Spark in Heat Wave

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Rosemont Ravens women's soccer team (0-3) came away from tonight's game with a tough 6-0 loss; this time at the hands of the host Elizabethtown College Blue Jays (1-2).

Under sweltering 88-degree heat and humidity, E'town grasped the lead early when Lydia Lawson scored her first of three straight goals (four in total for the game) in the 6th minute to put the Blue Jays ahead 1-0. Additional goals from Lawson scored in the 15th and 21st minutes put E'town up 3-0. The Ravens were able to keep the home side off the board for the remaining 24 minutes of the half.

The Rosemont defense worked hard and was tested heavily in the first, but Rosemont was outshot 18-1 with the Ravens' lone shot coming off the boot of Victoria Kasper on a set piece from about 25 yards out.

The Blue Jays started the second half on a scoring binge, finding the net in the 49th and 51st minutes to put the game well and truly out of reach of the Ravens. The Rosemont defense again tried to limit the damage, keeping the Blue Jays off the scoreboard for the next 13 minutes, after which E'town made the score 6-0.

Rosemont's offense had a difficult time mustering momentum tonight. Payton Kanagie hit a shot that went wide right and a shot by Emily Johnston later in the half was thwarted by an E'town block, leading to a Ravens' corner.

Rosemont keeper Jenna Kaiser was kept under constant pressure tonight, making some spectacular saves and snatching 16 balls out of the 22 shots on goal from Elizabethtown. Overall, the Blue Jays outshot the Ravens by a count of 37-3.

The team will next take to the pitch on Saturday, when they will open up their CSAC schedule at Clarks Summit University. The game is scheduled for a 1:00pm kickoff.
