Griffins Cool Off Ravens' Bats

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – It may have felt like mid-Summer today, but the heat didn't carry over to the Rosemont bats as the host Gwynedd Mercy Griffins defeated the Ravens in both softball games this afternoon, 11-0 and 9-1. The Ravens are now 4-19 on the season (2-18 CSAC). Gwynedd Mercy's overall record reached the .500 level (16-16), and they are 12-8 in the conference.

Game 1 – Gwynedd Mercy 11, Rosemont 0

Gwynedd Mercy opened up the game with a four-spot in the first inning, and that would be enough to back the pitching of Alexis Gartner. Gartner tossed a no-hitter over five innings, striking out four. Bailey Schulte was Rosemont's only baserunner in the Ravens, drawing a walk. Gartner struck out four to earn the win.

Jessica Behr had the hot bat for the Griffins, going two-for-two at the plate and driving in four runs.

Charli Fillmore took the loss in the circle for Rosemont, giving up six earned runs in four innings, striking out a couple and walking three.

Game 2 – Gwynedd Mercy 9, Rosemont 1

The Ravens continued to struggle at the plate in today's second game. The Ravens did put five safeties on the board, but only plated a lone run in the 5th inning when Ke'alohilani doubled home Abigail Wolfe.

Trailing 1-0 after one, the Griffins put a big fiver on the board in their half of the second inning, and the Ravens didn't have the offense against Gwynedd Mercy pitcher Alyssa Morales to make a comeback. Lena Buccigrossi's bat has been warming up as the season comes to a close. Buccigrossi was 2-for-2. Other hits come off the bats of Bailey Schulte and Victoria Kasper.

Kaeleigh Criniti went 2-for 3 and batted in three runs to lead the Griffins. Jenna Trythall and Marisa Bentley also each had a pair of hits.

In the circle, Morales went five innings, striking out three and walking none to earn the win. Rosemont's Autumn Sharkey pitched 4.1 innings, giving up five earned runs with three K's and a walk.

The Ravens head home to face the Cairn Highlanders in both teams' final games of the 2017 season. The first pitch at the RAC is scheduled to be tossed tomorrow at 12 noon.
